A little Kusadasi..

Hi there,
First of all, thank you for letting us take a little time of yours..

Brief Kusadasi information;
Kusadasi means “Bird Island” and the town takes its name from the little island (whose name in Turkish means “Pigeon island” or “Dove Island”) that is in the harbour and is now connected by a causeway to the shore.This lovely marine city is near Izmir. The cruise ships have established Kusadasi as a major port over the last 15 to 20 years, and as a result, the once sleepy fishing village has evolved into a first-class resort with a full infrastructure of hotels, restaurants, shops and nightlife. Many interesting sites south of Kusadasi can be explored from the town. Such as Ephesus (Efes),House of Virgin Mary.Kusadasi is just 18 km away from Ephesus, also reachable to others: Priene, Miletos, Didyma a few hours away from the Kusadasi.

And the importance of this town, in a picturesque site overlooking the gulf of the same name stretching out towards the Aegean Coast, depends as much on its atmosphere and landscape as it does on fact that it is an ideal point of departure for most Kusadasi tours.

The thing that makes Kusadasi a popular resort is not just the weather or the sites to explore near by.

Since the town has changed from

into this

Local people have noticed the cultural changes too. This small fishing village turning into a city and a first class holiday resort took more than a several years. Many people have adapted them selves well, and some could not. Many people have came to Kusadasi to work, live.. And many have stayed and continued with their lives.

Because Kusadasi is also a city and not just a popular summer resort, Kusadasi has almost 12 months of life. If you take Bodrum for an example, middle of the winter the streets are empty during the day, nearly all tourist shops are closed and only one or two bars are open. Not to mention the smaller districts around the Bodrum Peninsula like Yalikavak or Turgutreis or others.

But with Kusadasi, things are a little different. Perhaps most of the touristic shops are closed but hundreds of local shops are still open. There are more than tens of bars and restaurants are open, streets are occupied by people. Not just the locals, foreigners too. The third largest city of Turkey Izmir and Izmir airport being so close, many local tourists keep coming to Kusadasi even in winter time. Bayrams (religious festivals), new year, Christmas, it’s not much different than summer months. A few cruise ships still dock at Kusadasi Harbour in winter and shops near the harbour will be open on them days.

The weather is also warm in autumn and spring, rainy days don’t last more than a few days, It does not snow or freeze at all. But skiing resorts are easly reachable from Kusadasi. So as a result, Kusadasi has life for more than just 6 months.. Come and see our town then..

See you in Kusadasi !!
